Transition to trades offers opportunities and supports to youth wishing to begin a career in trades. Transition to Trades offers 8 weeks of free training, and certificates in: FIRST AID, WHIMIS, CSTS, FALL PROTECTION, HAND PROTECTION, BACK PROTECTION, SIZZOR and BOOM LIFT - at no cost to participants.

Participants are paid minimum wage for 7 hours per day while they attend training.
A standard day provides ½ day of class time and ½ day of work.

Participants receive instruction on how to use basic tools and perform construction tasks. They leave with construction attire including steel toed boots. For those that go on to construction work following this program, Transition to Trades also provides a tool belt with basic tools for participants to keep. This is a program to draw unemployed individuals and assist them in getting into construction and trades. It is the first step in starting their career. Participants are encouraged to become indentured into an apprenticeship upon completion of the program.
